What is Upper Blepharoplasty?
Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes or repositions redundant skin, excess fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper lids. As we age, the connective tissue and muscles in the eyelid weaken. This causes skin to fold over the natural eyelid crease, sometimes even impacting your peripheral vision.
During upper eyelid surgery, a small incision is made in the natural upper eyelid crease to minimize noticeable scarring. Through this incision, Dr. Horn removes excess skin, adjusts the underlying levator muscle and orbicularis muscle, and may perform fat removal to reduce puffiness. The incision is closed with fine sutures for a smooth, subtle finish.
Many patients also benefit from addressing the lacrimal gland, which can sometimes bulge or cause fullness near the outer eye. Depending on your goals, your upper eyelid lift may also target skin discoloration, drooping skin, or anterior fibers contributing to puffiness.
