What are the benefits of PRP injections?

Doctors use PRP injections to treat injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, joints, arthritis pain, skin issues, and even hair loss! PRP injections have become a valuable tool in sports medicine to treat athletic injuries and to promote post-surgical healing.

PRP can help support wound healing and has shown to be effective in combating male pattern baldness (which affects both men and women). In addition, some doctors use PRP treatments to improve facial appearance, a treatment you may have heard called a “Vampire Facial.” A key advantage of PRP therapy is that it can reduce the need for anti-inflammatories or stronger medicines like opioids.

Selecting the right provider

PRP injections are an exceptionally safe procedure. But the safety and effectiveness of your treatment can only be maximized by a highly trained and experienced cosmetic injector. Risks and side effects

Because PRP injections are made up of your own cells, the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectables like corticosteroids.

Nevertheless, all procedures carry some risks, in this case including:

  • Bleeding
  • Tissue damage
  • Infection
  • Nerve injuries

Our medically trained professionals know how to minimize these risks through precise and skillful application.

PRP Costs

Costs will vary according to the type and extent of your treatment. Discuss costs with your doctor before your PRP therapy. Our team will help you file any needed paperwork to determine if your insurance will pay for all or part of your treatment. If your procedure is purely cosmetic, your insurance will not cover your costs.

Your PRP procedure

Your doctor will draw blood from your body and use a machine to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of your blood.

Your doctor will then numb your treatment areas. Once you are numb, the doctor will use a needle to inject your plasma into the treatment site. For example, if you are being treated for a muscle injury, your doctor would inject your plasma into several locations in that muscle. In some cases, ultrasound may guide the injections precisely to the right locations.

Once injected, the platelets break down and release growth factors. These compounds help cells repair and renew themselves.

Non-surgical Rhinoplasty Recovery

After your procedure, you may see some swelling and redness at your injection sites. Within an hour or two, the filler material should start to settle and your redness will subside.

Bring an ice bag with you to your appointment, and ask your doctor if it’s ok to use it following your injections. Most patients can go back to work and resume their normal activities later the same day of their treatment.

PRP Results

The results of PRP treatment are most apparent six months for scalp injections. Effects of facial injections can be seen much sooner, typically within one to three months. Results are not permanent and may require additional injections as directed by your doctor.
