Are you a candidate for a forehead lift for men?
Any one or combination of the following conditions and concerns may indicate you are a good candidate for brow lift:
- Sagging position of the eyebrows that give you a tired or sad appearance
- Deep horizontal creases across your forehead
- Furrows or frown lines between your eyebrows or across the top of your nose
- Crow’s feet
Non-smokers are preferred candidates. It’s important to remember that a forehead lift addresses only the upper third of your face. If you wish more complete facial rejuvenation, be sure to mention that during your consultation at The Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery. We create bespoke surgery plans to target your specific concerns.
Selecting the right surgeon
Partnering with the right surgeon is the most important decision you will make in maximizing the results and safety of your brow/forehead lift. Your physician should be eager to answer all your questions and show you “before and after” pictures of previous forehead lift patients.
The doctors at The Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery combine skill with passion to bring you terrific results. Our team takes the time to answer all your questions to make sure you feel confident about your decision to move forward with surgery.
Costs will vary according to the type and extent of the surgery performed. Since brow/forehead lift is a cosmetic procedure, your insurance will not pay for it.
Preparing for your brow lift
Your surgeon will carefully review your medical history. Fully disclose any previous surgeries and provide a list of all medications or supplements you are taking. If you are a smoker, you will be directed to stop for a specified period before and after your surgery. You will also need to suspend use of any medications (such as aspirin) that can elevate bleeding.
To assess your treatment options, your doctor will examine, measure and photograph different parts of your face with your eyes opened and closed. Make sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for at least the first night of your recovery.
Like any surgery, forehead lift poses risks, including bleeding, infection, allergic reaction and complications from anesthesia. Risks specific to brow/forehead lift are:
- Changes in skin sensation
- Loss of hair at the incision sites
- Asymmetry in the position of your brows
Your brow lift procedure
Brow lift surgery is done in a hospital or an outpatient surgical facility. You’ll be given a general anesthetic which will render you unconscious and keep you comfortable. There are several surgical techniques your doctor may use.
Endoscopic brow lift utilizes a long thin tube with a light and a tiny camera mounted on the end. The tube is inserted through several small incisions behind your hairline. The camera enables your surgeon to view your underlying muscles and tissues. Then, using another instrument inserted through a different incision, your surgeon will lift your forehead tissues and secure them in place with sutures.
In a coronal brow lift, your surgeon will make an incision behind your hairline and across the top of your head. The incision extends ear to ear or across the top of your head before lifting your forehead into its new position. The incision is discreetly hidden with the scalp in front of the incision overlapping the scalp behind it.
If a patient’s receding hairline is a concern, a hairline brow lift may be performed. In this technique, your hairline is not pulled back. Your surgeon will instead remove a small portion of skin and tissue from the top of your forehead, rather than from your scalp.
Brow Lift Recovery
After your surgery, your forehead may be loosely wrapped to minimize swelling, and a small tube may be placed along your incision site to drain excess blood or fluid. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for your incisions. You may experience some itching and numbness, which should quickly subside.
Bandages are typically removed in one to three days. Sutures are generally taken out within seven to ten days of your surgery. Ask your doctor when it’s all right to resume your normal activities, including bathing. Incision lines will fade over time.
Forehead Lift Results
A forehead lift will give your face a more youthful and vibrant appearance. Results, while durable, won’t last forever. Avoiding sun damage and living a healthy lifestyle will help to prolong your results.
