Who can benefit from chin augmentation?

At Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we are committed to aesthetic and medical excellence.

Many people are self-conscious about their chins. Let’s face it. In our society, attractive chins project health, confidence, and attractiveness. Chin augmentation can improve these areas of concern:

  • An imbalance of facial features
  • Jowls that hide the chin and jawline
  • A “weak chin” or a chin that does not project as far as the lower lip

Are you a good candidate for chin augmentation?

Ideal candidates are patients whose facial features are fully developed but who remain unsatisfied with the appearance of their chin and profile. We will do a full medical review with you and discuss any possible conflicts during your consultation.

Selecting the right doctor

When performed by a top-flight cosmetic surgeon, chin augmentation is safe and produces results that are attractive and durable.

Insist on a board-certified plastic surgeon who combines technical expertise with a keen eye for facial feature balance and aesthetics. Your doctor should be eager to show you “before and after” pictures of previous chin augmentation patients. Thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations with your surgeon.

Chin Augmentation Costs

Costs will vary according to the type and extent of the surgery performed.

Discuss costs thoroughly with your doctor prior to your procedure. If your chin augmentation is performed purely for cosmetic reasons, your insurance will not pay for it.

Risks and side effects

Like any surgery, chin augmentation comes with risks, including infection, excessive bleeding, complications from anesthesia, and allergic reactions to medications or materials.

Additional risks specific to chin augmentation include:

  • Damage to facial nerves
  • Damage to facial muscles
  • Shifts in implant position
  • Scarring
  • Poor wound healing
  • Internal bleeding

Preparing for your chin augmentation

The cost of your lip augmentation will depend on the type and extent of the procedures performed.

Most health insurance plans will not cover cosmetic procedures such as lip augmentation. We offer financing options available to help you get the treatments you want in a timely manner.

Your chin augmentation procedure

Your surgery will be performed using either local or general anesthesia as recommended by your doctor.

Your incision will be placed either inside your mouth where it is completely concealed or under your chin. Your implant will be placed over the bony structure of your chin and secured by the surrounding tissues. After implantation, your surgeon will close your incisions using tiny sutures. If your incision is inside your mouth, there will be no visible scarring. If your incision was made under your chin, scarring is typically imperceptible. Chin augmentation surgery typically takes about an hour.

Your recovery

Following your surgery, your doctor may apply a chin strap dressing to further secure your implant in its proper position. That dressing will be removed in one to three days.

Recovery can take about a week. Expect some swelling, bruising, and soreness. Pain medication may be prescribed when appropriate. Your speech and swallowing may be limited, so a soft food and liquid diet will be necessary for the first day or two of recovery.

Chin Augmentation Results

Post-surgical swelling can initially distort your results. But as the swelling subsides, you will see improved chin shape, size, and contour. Most patients love their new profiles!

While the aging process will impact your appearance in other ways, the results of your chin augmentation are permanent.
